Nursery School
At Max Stibbe, the Nursery School children are living in their own lovely world of colour and fantasy, with themes leading them to understand nature, the seasons, the creatures and the rhythm of the year.
They paint, draw, create, recite, act in narrative plays specially written for them and they are participating in many different crafts which give them joy and develop their fine motor skills. Much emphasis is given to speech, identifying sounds, to develop their ear, preparing them for learning to read in Grade 1.
They play many different counting games as a basis for numeracy in class one. They acquire a huge repertoire of songs so that they are actually always singing, even after school.
Creativity in the sandpit calls for participation and co-operation when rivers, bridges and castles are built. Play is preparation for life – you see that when they tenderly put the dolls to bed at pack-up time; when boys and girls play house together, being daddy and mommy.
We aim to relate to the child’s inner life and specific stage of development. Children participate in joyful activities related to the earth, the seasons and celebration of quarterly festivals. They learn many creative skills, which ensure that they excel during their school career.
